My subject

Personal Reflection-
Two things I am good at are completing some homework on time, and doing my blog work.
Two things I need to improve on are my test/quiz marks for math.
I goal for the next 6 weeks is to pay attention in class and practice for the math quiz.
Adult Reponse-
  • In looking at your work, I would like to compliment you on the following 2 things:
i enjoyed how you tried to teach me some math, and how you explained how cro-magnons lived.
  • In the last 6 weeks of school I will help you reach your goals by: by telling his mother that he needs to prepare for his quizes.

Math

Term 1 Reflection

What did I learn? I learned Ratio’s, Rates and Proportional Reasoning. Ratio is compare two or three quantities in the same unit. EXAMPLE - 1:2 or 1 to 2. Rates is compare two to three quantities in different units EXAMPLE - $23.50/180g. Proportional reasoning is relationship that says the two rates are equal can be written in fraction form. I also learned how to square root and how to square. Squaring is multiplying a number by it’s self. EXAMPLE - 5x5 or 3x3. Square root is dividing a whole number. EXAMPLE - square root of 25 = 5. We also learned prime factorization and Pythagoras. Prime factorization is a factor tree. EXAMPLE - 2x3 2x3. Pythagoras is the long side of a right triangle. EXAMPLE - a2+b2=c2.

did I do all my homework? I will say no. I think i did 75% of the homework in term one but now i don’t do all my work. So I’ll try to do all this year.

What will I do better in term 2? I will start studying for test and do all my homework.

Pythagoras

1. RED is the answer external image 111.jpg
The Pythagorean relationship can be used to determine the Length of the Hypotenuse of a right triangle when the lengths of the two Legs are known.

3. Question - Determine the length of each hypotenuse. Show your work.
a)
a squared + b squared = c squared
40cm squared + 9cm squared = c squared
(40x40) + (9x9) = c squared
1600cm + 81cm = c squared
The square root of 1681cm = c squared
41 cm squared = c squared external image 111.jpg
b)
a squared + b squared = c squared
12m squared + 35m squared = c squared
(12x12) + (35x35) = c squared
144m squared + 1225m squared = c squared
The square root of 1369m squared = c squared
37m squared = c squared

5. Question - Calculate the missing side length for each right triangle, to the nearest tenth of a centimetre. Show your work. external image 111.jpg
a)
a squared = c squared - b squared
a squared = 6 cm squared - 5 cm squared
a squared = (6x6) - (5x5)
a squared = 36cm squared - 25cm squared
The square root of 11 = a squared
a squared = 3.31cm squared

external image 111.jpg
b)
a squared = b squared - c squared
a squared = 7cm squared - 12cm squared
a squared = (7x7) - (12x12)
a squared = 49cm squared - 144cm squared
The square root of 95 = a squared
a squared = 9.74

7. Question - A triangle is made up of two smaller congruent right triangles.

external image 111.jpg

a)
a squared + b squared = c squared
4m squared + 2m squared = c squared
(4x4) + (2x2) = c squared
16+ 4 = c squared
The square root of 20 = c squared
4.5 = c squared

external image 111.jpg
b)
a squared = c squared - b squared
a squared = 8m squared - 4.5 squared
a squared = 8m squared + 4.5m squared + 4.5m squared
a squared = 17m squared

Percent

Percents
In this chapter we did percents, Percents are out of 100. We also learned how to convert percents to decimals and fraction. We can also write it as a one hundred grid to show answer.
Example: 55% - 55/100 and 0.55.
external image aaa.jpg
Repercents Percents
You could use a 100 grid to get a anwser.
Example: 35%

Fraction, Decimals, Percents
Percents can be shown as a Decimals and Fractions.
Example: 25% - 25/100 - 0.25

Percents of a numberexternal image aaa.jpg
You can use mental math like halving, dividing by 10 and doubling the number.
Example: 50% of $80 is $40
Combining Percents
if you combine percents by adding to solve a problem
Example: 6% + 8% = 14%

Term 2 Reflection

In term 2, I think I did good in some tests but not all. I really like the rectangular prism because its really easy to do and it’s not so difficult. The formula is LxWxH. I think did good on mostly all the tests because I didn’t have any trouble figuring out the problems. In term 2, I think I struggled with the blog the most because I haven’t comment on a lot and I did bad posts this year. Now i know that i should take some time off of television to do my blog and comment on all of them or most of them. In term 3, I’ll try and get 100% on the test and comment on all of the blogs. This term ill stop goofing off and pay attention in class so i can get 100% on the tests. In term 2, we learned about percent, surface area and volume. In term 2, we learned how to salve percents by converting it to get a decimal and a fraction. we also learned how to find taxes by using a ratio table and finding the GST and PST os the price. we learned how to find the area of a rectangular prism by the formula LxWxH. There are other shapes like a cylinder and a triangular prism too but they are a little bit harder.
